Class news 6/26

The first blog post is up; click here or scroll down.

Send me your blog links by next Tuesday, July 2.

A few things we pooled together today: novels are at the center of problem between what's reality and what's fiction; novels are a technology of identity production and representation; novels are long stories that have parts and structures; novels, like all stories, try to create order and meaning from disorder and chaos; novels, like all stories, are about ways to solve problems.

Almost by necessity, the kinds of problems novels solve are problems that are potentially experienced by many.

We also shared some glimpses into problems that address why we read, how we read, what reading does, what reading should do, and what reading can do.

If our class disagrees on everything and interprets novels differently, then our class will have been a success.
